Cover Art by Modest Stein - Love Story - Jan. 15, 1938
Original cover painting for Love Story Magazine - Jan. 15, 1938 by Modest Stein.
The white background appears to be in oil but the woman is done in pastel. I have not inspected the painting outside of the frame but I beleive it is on artist's board.
Painting is from the estate of Daisy Becon. What is so great about the provenance is that in the most well known photo of Bacon, this painting is shown hanging on her office wall. I acquired this painting from Bacon's care taker who was gifted the painting directly from Bacon.
From Wikipedia: Daisy Bacon started working in publishing at Street & Smith as an advice columnist, before becoming editor of several of their pulp magazines. She began editing Love Story in 1928, and stayed in that position until the magazine's run ended in 1947. "In her pages, she offers to the average woman – not a flight from actual life — but a heightened reality," explained one profile in 1942, noting that the magazine's circulation was between two and three million readers a month. She also edited Smart Love Stories, Detective Stories, The Shadow, and Doc Savage.
Condition: I received this painting in it's frame. The photos where done with no alteration to the lighting. Please forgive me for any glare. It appears to be in great shape.
This painting does not include the pulp (sorry for the low quality pulp photo. It was all I could find). Photo of Bacon also not included.
Shipping: I am going to put no shipping cost on this painting because shipping can vary quite a bit. After purchase, I will get a quote for you. I will only charge the cost to ship. No handling fees. I also already have a box so, no additional cost with materials.
