Detective Story - June, 1947 Art by Charles Ravel
Original cover painting for Detective Story Magazine - June, 1947 by Charles Ravel. Including the original cover proof. I believe this to be oil on artists board. Framed.
Painting and cover proof from the estate of Daisy Becon.
From Wikipedia: Daisy Bacon started working in publishing at Street & Smith as an advice columnist, before becoming editor of several of their pulp magazines. She began editing Love Story in 1928, and stayed in that position until the magazine's run ended in 1947. "In her pages, she offers to the average woman – not a flight from actual life — but a heightened reality," explained one profile in 1942, noting that the magazine's circulation was between two and three million readers a month. She also edited Smart Love Stories, Detective Stories, The Shadow, and Doc Savage
From what I could find about Charles Ravel, he had done 26 cover paintings for Detective Story magazine from 1946 - 1951.
Condition: I received this painting in it's frame but have included a picture showing it outside of the frame. The photos where done with no alteration to the lighting. All but the last image was taken in natural light. The last is with indoor lighting by someone else.
The cover proof is in nice shape aside from some paste stains on the back as it had be in a sort of scrap book. Both painting and proof present very nicely.
I think one of the greatest aspects of this piece is that both of the items are from the editors estate.
Shipping: I am going to put no shipping cost on this painting because shipping can vary quite a bit. After purchase, I will get a quote for you. I will only charge the cost to ship. No handling fees. I also already have a box so, no additional cost with materials.
